How to Solve the Biggest Problems With Soap Dispensers

Soap dispensers are an integral part of any washroom. They are commonly wall-mounted or counter mounted in close proximity to the washbasins. Inevitably, because of their very essence, they are among the most utilised pieces of equipment that may be installed in a washroom and may be used several times by a single user on a single visit.

Although traditionally hand-operated, automatic soap dispensers are becoming increasingly popular and commonplace nowadays. Automatic soap dispensers are a handy addition to any public washroom for the convenience and protection against the spread of germs that they provide.

Due to their frequent use, soap dispensers are also prone to experiencing problems over the course of their lives. Fortunately, most of these problems are fairly easy to resolve and do not require the investment of too much time nor money.

What are Common Problems?

Most often, we only realise that there may be a problem when the dispenser stops dispensing soap. Provided that the soap itself hasn’t run out, the most common reasons for this may be:

  1. If your dispenser has not been used in a long period of time it may become clogged.
  2. The sensor may be damaged, the batteries have run out or the wiring is faulty (in the case of automatic soap dispensers).

The other common problem that we see with soap dispensers is that the liquid soap keeps flowing despite not being operated. In this case, the common causes may be:

  1. A damaged or cracked delivery system (tube or the soap reservoir itself).
  2. A fault with the sensor which registers an input despite the absence of one (relevant to automatic dispensers only).

Solving the Problems

In any one of the four above scenarios, the first step is to pour only warm water into the dispenser and gently pump it to clear the blockage. Never try inserting a sharp object into the soap nozzle as this could damage the pump and void the warranty. You must never use solvents or aggressive household cleaners like beach, descalers, or ammonia-based bathroom cleaners.

If the unit is automatic, ensure that the battery is working or that the power supply is not obstructed. If power is not the issue, the sensor might be damaged. In this case, you will need professional assistance as can be provided by QBIC. Otherwise, the most common reason for not dispensing is that there is a problem with the supply tube.

In the case of incessant soap flow, the tube itself may be damaged or cracked. QBIC can replace these components. If the sensor is damaged, it will usually require replacement.
